About me
I was born in 1999 in Montevideo, Uruguay. I am known as Romina Galperin, or alternatively, by my artistic pseudonym, Fiera. I identify as an interdisciplinary artist whose primary mode of expression is imagery. Over time, I have curated an archive that meticulously documents my individualized perception of the world. My artistic inclination leans towards the exploration of analogue techniques, despite my formal training being predominantly rooted in digital art. This amalgamation affords me the capacity to embark upon projects that seamlessly marry the realms of antiquity and modernity, providing profound insights into the inexorable passage of time and the essence of contemporary existence.

Live visuals selected in an open call for a showcase in Magma Futura
Montevideo, 2022
Impacted by the uniqueness of the open call, which notably omitted the audio element, I found myself pondering the channels of communication through which we confine our human expression. While words and sounds typically serve as our primary means of conveying ourselves in daily life, I began to wonder about the potential if we were to employ the entirety of our bodies for expression.
Hands, eyes, the vigor of movements, the spectrum of colors,
and the tempo of actions — all can communicate
without the need for words.
The project was chosen for exhibition at "Magma Futura,"
a distinctive contemporary venue in Uruguay
committed to bridging the realms of
art and technology, where it was showcased for a period of four months.

Immersive interactive installation influenced by Hito Steyerl's book "The Wretched of the Screen," comprising low-quality archival videos from YouTube and the unique amalgamation of sounds when these intersect. Through this project, I aimed to delve into questions about the essence of a photograph's value or merit. Is it defined by its resolution or by the narrative it conveys? To what extent can I alter an image while it retains its identity? Additionally, how personal or authentic is any form of digital art hosted on the internet?

A video art project delving into performance art, filmed amidst the pandemic. I positioned myself directly in front of various art institutions that had been closed, symbolizing the plight of artists left without avenues for work when government support is lacking.

This living installation came to life in 2022 during my exchange at the Fine Arts University in Bilbao. It was born out of a desire to break free from the monotony of routine and was inspired by a simple doodle in my notebook: a circle with the caption "Vicious circles" underneath. It all unfolded from an uncontrollable urge, a characteristic of my personality, to challenge reality, materials, time, and my own abilities. Its culmination lies in its eventual destruction. The documentation of this project went against its essence of spontaneity, which is why there isn't a more extensive videography available.
Later, in 2023, the artist book for this project was exhibited in Montevideo as part of a local initiative led by female artists called Genesis. This showcase aimed to offer a glimpse into the inner workings of an artistic endeavor.

Audiovisual project for a collective instalation selected as part of the interantional experimental arts festival, “EXIT” held in Montevideo. This piece is focused on human interaction though technology. Alongside the installation, I also directed and photographed a project inspired by Donna Haraway's "A Cyborg Manifesto".
Profoundly affected by light phenomena, my film photography practice is caracterized by the meticoulos search of colour and composition in order to capture different settings and personalities.
